A Walk In Their Shoes

“You can’t understand someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”

This year 1 in 54 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

To raise awareness and to celebrate the individuals in our lives with autism spectrum disorder, our Perry Service Learning student volunteers have planned “A Walk in Their Shoes”, a 1-mile mapped walk around the Perry Local School District campus.

Join us as we walk from the Footprints Center for Autism building (in the Manchester West building on the Perry Local Schools campus) to the Perry High School bus loop. It’s a great way to get fit with a greater purpose in mind!

Date/Time: This event will take place in the heart of Autism Awareness Month, on April 10th, 2021, and the walk will begin at 8:30am (registration opens up at 8:00am).  Join us for “A Walk in Their Shoes”, or choose a time/ location that suits you for your own walking challenge and walk with us in spirit!  Admission is free for this exciting event!

Please join us in the Perry High School Bus Loop following the walk to enjoy a plethora of activities such as a DJ, a music therapy table, and a bake sale. There will also be hand-painted ornaments from Footprints students available for purchase. All proceeds made from the baked goods and the ornaments will be donated to Footprints Center for Autism. Also, make sure to visit the KidsFirst research registry table, where the research team from Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals will be available to discuss their goals for developing more accurate diagnosis and tailored interventions for children with autism or neurodevelopmental disorders. Hope to see you there!

But wait- there’s more!  Specially designed commemorative walk t-shirts are available for pre-sale ONLY (no shirts will be available at the walk for day-of purchase). You can order your shirts HERE and pick them up at the event. Pre-sale closes on Thursday, March 25th, 2021, so make sure to purchase your shirts today!
